Center Of Sports Universe – Boston
Jackie McMullan of the Boston Globe and ESPN’s ‘Around The Horn’ actually defended yesterday, that the leading national sports story was, David “Papi” Ortiz hitting his first home run of the year.
To the formerly respected writer from Boston, it wasn’t Jake Peavy’s non-trade to the White Sox, Amy Mickelson’s cancer, Michael Vick’s Range Rover ride, Blake Griffin to the Clippers, the NHL or NBA playoffs Zack Greinke on the mound, or the streaking Tigers or Yankees.
This is Boston centrism at its worst. For those in New England, the Bruins are out, the Celtics are out, the Sawx are on 1 1/2 out, Boston College is without a jettisoned good coach and without its best player, Tom Brady is returning from a repaired knee with Matt Gutierrez, Kevin O’Connell, rookie Brian Hoyer and a “pipedream” rumor of Michael Vick are his back-ups.
This has nothing to do with being anti-Boston. It has everything to do with trying to pull for good sports, no matter from where they come. But Boston elitism just isn’t going away. So let’s have more replays of the drunk guy in the stands at Fenway.
